When Should I Go for Root Canal Treatment?

    NatalieBy NatalieAugust 7, 2023No Comments3 Mins Read

Root canal therapy is a dental procedure used to cure severely decayed dental pulp and prevents further expansion of decay. A timely done root canal procedure can successfully save a decaying tooth and offer relief from pain. But, you can only take quick action if you know when it’s time to go for a root canal treatment.

7 signs when you should go for holistic root canal New York treatment:

    1. Persistent Toothache: If you are experiencing a toothache that lingers for an extended period, then it’s an alarming sign. No matter whether your pain is mild discomfort or debilitating, if the pain worsens when biting or applying pressure on the affected tooth, you should immediately consult a dentist.
    2. High sensitivity to hot and cold: If you are experiencing intense sensitivity to hot and cold temperatures, it could be a warning sign of an infected tooth. Healthy teeth do not respond quickly to temperature variations; however, with a decayed dental core, sensitivity becomes more pronounced.
    3. Gum Swelling and Tenderness: Sometimes, a pimple-like protrusion, known as a dental abscess, appears on the gums. The abscess is a collection of pus that indicates a dangerous dental illness that necessitates root canal treatment.
    4. Discolored Tooth: You might need root canal treatment if you are observing that your tooth has darkened or changed color compared to the adjacent teeth. It is a sign of dying nerves inside the tooth. When the dental pulp is damaged, the tooth loses its vitality, leading to discoloration.
    5. Pain on touching the Tooth: If you experience excruciating pain when touching the damaged tooth or surrounding area, this could be a clue of an infected tooth that needs root canal treatment.
    6. Loose tooth: If the supporting tissues and root bones are infected, then you will experience mobility in the tooth. A loose tooth, thus, should be evaluated carefully, and you should go for a root canal if the dentist says so.
    7. Cracked or Damaged Tooth: A cracked or damaged tooth hosts bacteria by allowing entry to the dental pulp, which causes infection and inflammation. So, if you have a damaged tooth and you don’t want to take the risk of infection, consider going for a root canal treatment.

Always remember that not every symptom of toothache or sensitivity requires a root canal. These symptoms can sometimes be relieved with less surgical treatment like fillings or gingival treatments. However, if you encounter any of the aforementioned signs, you should take the counsel of an endodontist for a proper evaluation and plan of treatment.
